We live close to the high school that my daughter attends, so her friends with whom she plays in a band often come to visit. During long vacations, their hair might temporarily turn red or even green. I find this interesting so I sometimes take pictures of them. As they are not professional models, they show no inclination to try to look good for the camera. There is no sense of nervousness as they just stand in front of the camera in a totally normal way.
Their band activities will end along with the summer, and by next year, each will be off going down their separate paths. The fact that friends at age 17 are special is probably something they will not realize until they are much further down that path.
I wonder if one day, when they are adults and have 17-year-old children of their own, they will say, "Your mother played in a band when she was young, you know."
In preparation for that time, I photographed these girls in their hometown.
Feedback on having used 18-270mm (Model B008)
For shooting photographs of 17-year old high school girls, my usual methods do not work. The wide zoom range was essential for following these girls around. More than anything else, I was thankful of the VC (Vibration Compensation) which allowed me to successfully take pictures even in difficult circumstances without using a tripod. For these shots, I ended up entrusting everything to the lens.
